The Oils Sands Discovery Centre

This past Monday, Jason and I took the kids to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre here in town.  It was a fun trip - a bit like a smaller version of Science World.  Here we're posed in front of a dinosaur skeleton found in 2004 (I believe) at one of the mine sites.

Davis and London enjoying the kids' area of the Discovery Centre.

Davis wasn't so into getting dressed up 'like Daddy wears to work'.  Okay - he completely did not want anything to do with it......

By the time we were there, most of the 'sand' had already been moved out of the shovel's reach.  Jason reached down and moved it around so the kids would be able to shovel a bit easier - instead they mimicked him and just got in there with their hands!

London in one of the buckets they used to use when scooping up the sands

Davis in the same bucket

Davis beside a CAT engine

London on the deck of a big truck similar (or I guess the same) as the trucks used out on site

London was initially VERY hesitant to get into the cab of the truck.  They had radio 'chatter' playing and a huge movie screen in front of the truck to simulate driving around the mine.  You could choose between Syncrude's or Suncor's sites and between different times of day at either site as well.  London was convinced that the truck was going to drive off on it's own and I had to promise her several times that it was all pretend and the truck wasn't going anywhere.

Davis would spend 24/7 behind a steering wheel if he could - he LOVED this part!

I wanted a picture beside the big tire of the truck, but the kids were done by then and didn't care a bit.  Oh well - I guess they can't all be 'kodak moments'!

The Last Couple of Weeks

As you already know, John passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 25th.  Jason, I, and the kids packed up the truck and drove to Abbotsford to be with my mom, brother, and the rest of our family and friends.  Here are some pictures of our time on the road and in Abbotsford.....

Somehow these ended up out of order.  I believe these are from a rest stop on our way home.

Davis being his usual happy self ;)

He often has his tongue hanging out like a puppy - I'm always worried that he's going to bite it off one day when he trips and falls......

Yes - I was tired

Decisions, decisions - Play with the ball or the rocks?

Again - out of order - but London had a wonderful time at her cousin's house playing in their huge yard!  What could be more fun than splashing in puddles wearing your pajamas and rain boots?

At the zoo in Edmonton (on our way home)  I actually had to tear Jason away from the Red Panda to take our picture.  (Be thankful that I sorted through the 50 million pictures of the Prarie Dogs and Red Panda so you didn't have to)

Back at the Pauls' house - London having so much fun!

I've tried to teach London about "pumping" on the swing so that I don't always have to push her.  She gets it in theory.......

While we were staying at Eric and Jessica's, Samara's school had a Fun Fair that she was so excited for us (mostly London) to come to.  They had a lot of fun activites for the kids, and it was just a really beautiful day to be outside!

Davis loved throwing the bean bags through the hole - they were so nice about him standing so close to do it.  He was so into it that he even threw his prize in the hole when the girl gave it to him :)

This was one of the prizes that both of the kids received.  It's a cheap dollar store thingy (yes, that's the technical term), but as you'll see, we had a lot of fun with them!

I don't know why, but Davis likes to tackle me from behind.......

That's it - as always I feel like there's so much that we missed documenting - that's life I guess.
